If you’re dealing with crow’s feet, crepey texture, or that gradually more tired-looking undereye situation that seems to appear overnight sometime in your 30s and 40s, the best peptide eye creams can help support smoother, firmer-looking skin over time (alongside the usual suspects: sleep, hydration, and sunscreen). Peptides have become especially popular in eye creams because they multitask exceptionally well on one of the thinnest, most delicate areas of the face.
"Peptides are short chains of amino acids—the building blocks that make up proteins like collagen, elastin, and keratin in your skin," says Gloria Lu, a cosmetic chemist based in Clark, New Jersey. Some help signal skin to produce more collagen and elastin, which can soften the look of fine lines and loss of firmness; others temporarily relax the appearance of expression lines (think: a very subtle, topical cousin to neuromodulators), while certain peptides shuttle other active ingredients where they’re needed most.
The skin around the eyes is notoriously delicate, boasting a significantly thinner stratum corneum (the outermost layer of skin) compared to the rest of the face, often by as much as 0.1 millimeters. This thinness makes it more susceptible to environmental damage, dehydration, and the visible signs of aging. Factors such as constant facial expressions, UV exposure, and even genetics can contribute to the premature development of fine lines, wrinkles, and a loss of elasticity. Peptides, in their role as signaling molecules, offer a sophisticated approach to addressing these concerns by working at a cellular level.

And while some formulas rely solely on peptides, the ingredient category also “plays well with most skin-care ingredients,” adds Victoria Fu, a cosmetic chemist based in New York City. That’s why many of our favorite eye creams pair peptides with retinal, caffeine, niacinamide, or growth factors to tackle multiple signs of aging at once, from puffiness and dark circles to thinning skin and laxity. Read on for the best formulas that go beyond basic hydration to visibly smooth, plump, brighten, depuff, and help make crow’s feet look a little less pronounced—which is exactly why we put them to the test below.
Best Overall: SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Advanced Eye

SkinCeuticals
A.G.E. Advanced Eye
Why it’s worth it: Chances are, if you ask a dermatologist for an eye cream recommendation, SkinCeuticals is going to come up. The A.G.E. Advanced Eye Cream is beloved by derms, Allure staffers, and the general population alike for the way it targets visible signs of aging around the eyes using ingredients like Proxylane and Matrixyl 3000. “Proxylane helps to strengthen the extracellular matrix of the skin and increase the skin’s elasticity and firmness, as does Matrixyl 3000, a powerful biomimetic peptide,” says Jane Yoo, MD, a dual board-certified dermatologist based in New York City. (Biomimetic means that it’s identical to those naturally found in skin.) That Matrixyl 3000 complex is made up of palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, which essentially act as messengers, telling skin to ramp up collagen production and helping to soften the look of fine lines over time.
The “A.G.E.” in the name, aside from being an appropriate acronym, stands for advanced glycation end-products. Targeting a process called glycation, these damaging molecules form when sugar binds to proteins such as collagen and elastin, contributing to wrinkles, crepiness, and a loss of firmness. To help counter that process, the Best of Beauty Award-winning formula also features a concentrated flavonoid blend—antioxidant compounds derived from bilberry and pomegranate extracts that help defend against free radical damage while visibly brightening tired-looking undereyes. Caffeine helps with puffiness, while humectants like glycerin and sorbitol keep the delicate skin hydrated. “It has a creamy texture that feels soothing at nighttime and not too greasy if you’re applying it in the morning,” adds Dr. Yoo.

“I have really deep crow’s feet when I smile—the downside of having an expressive face—but this stuff has helped soften their look and keep them from getting further etched in when my face is at rest. It feels balmy and nourishing but not heavy, and I appreciate that it hasn’t seemed to exacerbate the milia around my eyes.” —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

SkinMedica
TNS Eye Repair
Why it’s worth it: If you already love SkinMedica’s Best of Beauty Award-winning TNS Advanced+ Serum for your face, meet TNS Eye Repair. It’s a richer, thicker cream texture that targets concerns like crow’s feet, puffiness, and dryness. The peptides in SkinMedica’s TNS Eye Repair—palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7—are the same kind found in Matrixyl 3000 to encourage skin to produce more collagen, helping soften fine lines and improve firmness.

The formula also pairs Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media (a.k.a. SkinMedica’s signature growth factor blend that supports skin repair and cell turnover) with tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, a stable, oil-soluble vitamin C derivative—alongside antioxidant-rich vitamin E, green tea, oat extract, and rice bran oil to help defend against free radical damage. And because the undereye area is one of the first areas to show crepiness, it’s loaded with comforting hydrators and emollients, such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol, shea butter, and sunflower seed oil.

“I love the packaging update SkinMedica made because the easiest way you can entice me to use eye cream is if it’s in a pump bottle—typical tubs are so small as is! This formula is so elegant and silky, and a joy to apply. I make sure to apply the cream (which absorbs very quickly without any residue!) on eyelids as well, and there is never any irritation or stinging. While I don’t have any crow’s feet or crepey texture (yet), my eye area always feels instantly hydrated and plumped—which is exactly what I need at this time.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor
Best for Crow’s Feet: Anua Retinol 0.1 Caffeine Revitalizing Eye Cream

Anua Retinol 0.1 Caffeine Revitalizing Eye Cream in branded tube component on a light gray background.
Anua
Retinol 0.1 Caffeine Revitalizing Eye Cream
Why it’s worth it: K-beauty stans need no introduction to Anua’s barrier-friendly formulas (like its viral Heartleaf 77% Soothing Toner). But if you’re just boarding Starship Seoul for the first time, here’s what to know: Anua has a knack for making active ingredients feel more approachable, and its Retinol 0.1 Caffeine Revitalizing Eye Cream is a great example. Yes, you’re getting 0.1% retinol and caffeine to help smooth fine lines and temporarily de-puff tired undereyes, but the formula’s stacked peptide lineup is what really sets it apart. (Plus, 0.1% is a very, very low concentration as far as retinoids go.) Copper tripeptide-1 is known for supporting skin repair and elasticity, while acetyl hexapeptide-8—often found in formulas dubbed “Botox in a bottle”—softens the look of expression lines by targeting repetitive facial movement. There’s also hexapeptide-2, which supports firmness and elasticity, plus acetyl dipeptide-1 cetyl ester, a soothing peptide often used to reduce discomfort and sensitivity around the delicate eye area.
Classic K-beauty barrier support is (unsurprisingly) woven throughout the formula, too, with ceramides, panthenol, squalane, and several forms of hyaluronic acid to cushion against the dryness and irritation retinol can sometimes bring. Niacinamide brightens dark circles, soluble collagen brings bounce, and antioxidant-rich sea buckthorn oil helps defend against environmental stress. All of which is to say: If the word “retinol” on a label usually makes you nervous, this formula has plenty of built-in cushioning to help even sensitive skin types ease on board, as evidenced by our tester.

“As someone with sensitive, itchy eyes that get very watery during spring allergy season, I was pleasantly surprised by how beginner-friendly Anua’s Retinol 0.1 Caffeine Revitalizing Eye Cream feels. The low dose of retinol never left my eye area feeling dry or reactive, and the bouncy gel-cream texture absorbs almost instantly with immediate hydration. As I head into the last year of my 30s, I’m starting to notice crow’s feet and fine lines lingering a little longer, and this has been great for helping keep them from fully settling in.” —Christa Joanna Lee, contributing commerce writer

Best for Sensitive Skin: InnBeauty Project Extreme Cream Eye Cream
InnBeauty Project Extreme Cream Eye Cream in branded component on a light gray background.
InnBeauty Project
Project Extreme Cream Eye Cream
Why it’s worth it: For those with sensitive skin, finding an eye cream that actually firms and smooths skin without triggering irritation can feel a little like playing skin-care roulette on the most delicate part of your face. (Though a friendly reminder: Patch-test new products on the inside of your arm first.) InnBeauty Project’s Extreme Cream Eye makes a strong case that you can keep things gentle without sacrificing results. The fragrance-free formula packs multiple peptides, including acetyl hexapeptide-8 (that “Botox-like” peptide) to help soften the look of expression lines, while acetyl tetrapeptide-5 targets puffiness and undereye bags. There’s also arginine/lysine polypeptide to help support firmness and elasticity.
The rest of the formula reads like a soothing, barrier-supportive dream team: Centella asiatica, bisabolol, and allantoin help calm irritation, while snow mushroom extract mimics hyaluronic acid, helping skin retain moisture. Squalane, rice bran oil, and glycerin bring the rich, cushy hydration that dry undereyes crave, and glyceryl glucoside helps pull water into the skin for a plumper, more rested look. It also contains bio-retinol, a plant-based retinol alternative that helps smooth and firm skin without the irritation traditional retinoids can sometimes bring. The overall vibe is “I slept eight hours, drank all my water, and have never known stress”—maybe that last part is a stretch, but you get the idea.

Then I Met You
Snail Mucin Eye Cream
Why it’s worth it: By the time you’re done reading this, Then I Met You’s Snail Mucin Eye Cream might be sold out. One of the brand’s newest launches, the plush, K-beauty-inspired formula has all the makings of a viral favorite: a makeup-friendly texture, a sensitive skin-friendly formula, and a lineup of ingredients designed to deliver the bouncy skin Korean skin-care products are famous for. It features a combo of 1% caffeine, 30% Snail Mucin Complex, and 5% Volufiline, a plant-derived ingredient known for improving the look of undereye hollowness for a fuller, more cushioned appearance. Snail mucin is naturally rich in peptides, glycoproteins, and hyaluronic acid, and is beloved in K-beauty for supporting skin elasticity, deep hydration, and that smooth, bouncy “glass skin” effect. The formula also contains acetyl tetrapeptide-5 to help reduce puffiness and undereye bags, plus hydrolyzed conchiolin protein, a pearl-derived protein rich in amino acids to firm skin.
Beyond peptides, niacinamide brightens, squalane nourishes, and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid plump fine lines. Despite all that richness, people with reactive complexions can still get in on the eye-brightening fun: Azulene, a naturally blue antioxidant derived from chamomile, calms irritation. In other words: Catch it if you can.

“After recently watching K-Everything—a docuseries where Daniel Dae Kim explores the global rise of Korean culture through everything from K-pop and K-dramas to food and K-beauty—it felt especially timely to be testing this eye cream. The show gave me a renewed appreciation for not only how thoughtfully snail mucin is sourced in Korean skin care, but also just how good it can make skin look. The silky formula glides on effortlessly, and the ceramic tip applicator gives the eye area a subtle cooling massage that feels especially wonderful first thing in the morning. It also packs all the heavy hitters for tired-looking under-eyes: caffeine to de-puff, niacinamide to brighten dark circles, and Volufiline to plump. Best for Early Signs of Aging: Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal
Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal in branded tube component on a light gray background.
Beauty of Joseon
Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal
Why it’s worth it: One of our resident K-beauty expert’s favorite Beauty of Joseon products, the Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal is basically a triple threat for fine lines, dark circles, and puffiness—though we especially love it for the way it tackles early crow’s feet without feeling harsh. To increase cell turnover, the formula pairs retinal liposomes—a gentle delivery system that encapsulates retinal in tiny lipid bubbles to help stabilize the ingredient and slowly release it into the skin—with ginseng root extract, a longtime K-beauty staple known for its antioxidant properties and ability to revitalize tired-looking skin, according to Y. Claire Chang, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City.

There’s also palmitoyl tripeptide-5, a signal peptide that encourages collagen production to improve firmness and soften fine lines over time. Niacinamide tackles uneven skin tone, ceramides reinforce the skin barrier, and sodium hyaluronate keeps the delicate undereye area hydrated and bouncy. And according to our tester, the lightweight, custardy texture absorbs almost instantly while feeling every bit as luxe as eye creams triple the price.

“I think eye creams are a ‘nice-to-have’ skin-care step—and if I reach for an eye cream at all, it’ll be a retinol eye cream to reap retinol’s fine-line-minimizing and tightening benefits. I’m 32 and haven’t experienced fine lines around the eyes or generally sagging undereyes, but skin care is—with a lot of emphasis—all about consistent use and prevention. Beauty of Joseon’s Revive Eye Serum: Ginseng + Retinal has a lightweight, custardy-gel texture that absorbs almost immediately and makes my undereyes look a tad brighter and less puffy the next morning. Formula-wise, the stabilized retinal is super gentle and minimizes irritation, while ginseng brightens and boosts circulation, and glycerin supports the skin barrier.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor
Best Under Makeup: Paula’s Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Firming Eye Gel

Paula’s Choice
Pro-Collagen Peptide Firming Eye Gel

Why it’s worth it: The Paula’s Choice Pro-Collagen Peptide Firming Eye Gel doesn’t bury the lede: Four different peptides target pretty much every major eye-area complaint, from sagging to puffiness to crow’s feet. The lineup includes palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 to help support collagen and soften fine lines, acetyl hexapeptide-8 to firm and smooth the look of expression lines, and arginine/lysine polypeptide to help restore bounce and elasticity to the delicate undereye area. There’s also tridecapeptide-1, a newer synthetic peptide designed to improve skin resilience while delivering a smoother, firmer look almost immediately after application. (It doesn’t hurt that the cooling metal applicator makes tired eyes feel instantly more refreshed and soothed.)
We also love that the silky gel texture (courtesy of squalane and glycerin) absorbs quickly enough to double as an excellent primer—no creasing, pilling, or makeup meltdown in sight.

“If an eye cream has a metal tip applicator, it’s an automatic yes for me. This one from Paula’s Choice is cool to the touch and feels so lovely when it hits my skin first thing in the morning (after washing my face first, of course) when my undereyes are at their puffiest. The formula itself is equally as impressive—it’s super lightweight, seeps into skin immediately, and doesn’t leave behind a sticky finish (which tends to happen with eye gels, in my experience). I’m already on my second tube!” —Sarah Kinonen, beauty director
Frequently Asked Questions

What do peptides actually do in an eye cream?
In eye creams, they’re typically used to support collagen production, improve skin elasticity, and soften the look of fine lines over time. Different peptides target different concerns, but overall, Lu says to think of them “less as instant fixers and more as long-game support for skin structure.” Because they’re generally gentler than stronger actives, peptides also tend to work especially well in formulas designed for the delicate eye area.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the main types of peptides you’ll spot in skin care:
Does it matter what peptides I should look for on the ingredient list?
Yes, but decoding peptide ingredient lists can get confusing fast. “Peptides include a wide range of ingredients that don’t always work in the same way,” says Fu. Different peptides target different concerns, from fine lines to puffiness to skin repair, and many can appear under multiple names depending on the formula or trademarked complex. Still, there are a few standout peptides with especially strong reputations in skin care:
Are peptide eye creams as effective as retinol?
Peptide eye creams aren’t as effective as retinol—at least not on their own. “Retinoids have decades of data showing they can directly increase cell turnover and stimulate collagen, making them one of the most proven ingredients for wrinkles and hyperpigmentation,” says Fu. While peptides often play in the same skin-care arena, they work through different pathways and, overall, have less research supporting their benefits than retinol.
Can peptide eye creams help with dark circles?
Sometimes, but it really depends on both the cause of your dark circles and the specific peptides used in the formula. “Dark circles are complex,” says Lu. Some ingredients target pigmentation, while others focus on visible blood vessels or thinning skin under the eyes.

Peptides can help in some of those pathways, but Lu notes that it’s “highly dependent on the actual peptides used.” One example is Haloxyl, a trademarked peptide blend created by the same company behind Matrixyl, specifically developed and tested to help reduce the appearance of dark circles. In other words: Not every peptide eye cream is automatically a dark-circle treatment, but the right formula can absolutely help.

How we test and review products
Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?
For our review of the best peptide eye creams, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and professional makeup artists to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: wear, longevity, color variety, and ease of use. For more on what’s involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.

After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
